The Civil Society Organization Forum for Peace (CSO-FP) is a network organization composed of at least 20 member-partner organizations of non-governmental organizations (NGOs), people’s organizations (POs) and other sectoral organizations and individuals based in the Lanao del Norte and Lanao del Sur advocating for peace. The CSO-FP was organized at first into a movement in February 15, 2003 with a nucleus of 10 organizations and individuals after the Middle East crisis started in 2002 and into a full blown conflict that erupted in 2003. The purpose of the movement is to utilize a pro-active, creative and participatory way of promoting peace at a network level.
CSO-FP believes that the areas of concern between POVERTY, as the worst multi-faceted form of violence, and LASTING PEACE, practically cover much of the locus of peace building. Participation by consensus and consultation is the basis for membership to jointly implement peace building initiatives with strong system of collaboration and coordination. Major activities and accomplishments of CSO-FP is the launching in March 2003, the “MAKIGDAIT” (reaching-out in camaraderie), Solidarity for peace movement with the theme “Kalilintad Asa Ka?” (Peace Where art thou?). The CSO-FP played a vital role for the approval of Resolution No. 04-58 of the Sangguniang Panglunsod duly signed by the City Mayor of Iligan City dated March 26, 2004, declaring every last week of March as the Week of Peace in Iligan City. The CSO-FP also celebrates the Mindanao Week of Peace every last Thursday of November to first Wednesday of December by virtue of a Proclamation no. 127 dated 26th day of November 2001, by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. Other advocacy activities will include policy advocacy on Human rights, Labor, Women, children and many others. The most sustaining advocacy initiative for CSO-FP is the media advocacy by empowering the media in conducting peace journalism seminar to media practitioners based in Iligan City and Lanao provinces, by sharing with them the culture of peace in media practice. In general, the CSO-FP is committed to continue its peace advocacy initiatives not only in the Lanao areas but to the whole island of Mindanao on a collaborative effort through a network system of cooperation. |
